When it rains...it pours!

...In more than one way!

Well, as many have already posted, this week brought some pretty devestating storms to some states...Nebraska was one of them. Thursday night was the first time in my life that I've gotten to experience the tornado sirens go off...not something that I wish to experience again, so we spent the night in the basement hanging out. We never had any tornadoes touch down here, but we had some pretty amazing lightening and the weirdest green skies you have ever seen! That night, it started to rain, and it continued to rain until Friday night. In less than 24 hours we received 7.70 inches of rain! It was crazy to see...it's like nothing I've ever experienced before!! This picture was taken just 3 blocks from our house...yikes! We are just glad that no major damage was done!

Have you ever had one of those weeks where everything seems to just go down hill? We just had that week! For starters, we had a leak in one of our pipes that started out as a slow drip...called the plumber, he came to look at it and would be back the next day to fix it. Well, over night, it worsened to a steady spray and there was a good amount of water in our laundry room, but the plumber fixed it...no big worries. Next, our suv is shaking all weird, so now we have to get it in and looked at before something really bad happens. And lastly, 7.7 inches of rain has to go somewhere, right? Well, some of it made it's way into our basement, causing our carpet to get saturated in one corner...not good!! So Christian and I spent our Friday night date sucking up water with a Rug Doctor...not your usual date nite date! Like I said...when it rains...it pours!!

But, a ray of sunshine in our patch of clouds was having my mom here. She flew in Monday, which is a whole other story, and flew out this morning, even another story! We had so much fun!! She helped me get some items checked off my house project to do list while she was here. We, well, mostly my mom, filled all the holes in the wall that were left by the previous owners and then painted Carson's room and the baby's room. We just painted the baby's room white (it was a cute yellow, but I wanted to change it), and painted 3 of the 4 walls in Carson's room white and did one tan accent wall to match the new comforter I got for his room. It turned out super cute! When all of our company is through coming, I'm planning on moving the crib (which is currently a toddler bed) into the nursery what has been the guest bed, into Carson's room. I can hardly stand to wait, though. I'm pretty excited to see what it will look like all finished. I'll post some pictures when it's all finsihed. We were so glad to have my mom come and were sad to see her leave. It was fun to get to spend some time just hanging out talking and laughing, since it was so nasty!!:) I'm sure I'll miss her even more when we go to put Carson to bed tonight...he was spoiled and slept with mema every night this week...it might be a fight to get him to sleep in his own bed again!!

All in all though, it was a great week, and this week looks promising too! Christian's mom and grandma are coming this week for a couple of days! We are pretty excited to see them. I just hope we have better luck with weather while they are here than when my mom was here!;)

Poor little birdie!

Yesturday after church, Christian and I both had meetings afterwards. A couple of young men in our branch were so kind to take Carson and play with him outside for us while we were meeting. After about an hour, we were finally done and I went to find Carson. We looked all outside the church and didn't find him, so we went back in and there they were. One of the boys apologizes saying "We, uh, kind of had a little accident while we were chasing birds outside today." I said, "Oh, what kind of accident?" "Well, we were chasing birds and Carson some how found a nest full of blue eggs.." Well, come to find out Carson found the nest, picked up an egg, not realizing how delicate they are, and squished it everywhere! Yes that's right... baby bird all over his hands and church clothes. Stinkin' little boy...poor little egg!

Afternoon at the park

Today was really nice, minus the wind, so we spent the afternoon at the park. We had fun and here are some pictures of Carson enjoying the day!

Carson looks a lot like this beaver...I thought it was funny!

Sorry this these are on their side...I thought I had them fixed...oops!

Pleasant Surprise!

So, this morning, I was in the middle of scrubbing my sink when the doorbell rang. I went to the door, p.j.'s and no make up, and to my surprise found flowers. My mom and dad had sent me a beautiful bunch of flowers for Mother's Day along with a gift certificate to the gift shop part of the store...I can't wait to go and find something fun (they always have such cute stuff in there). They were the high light of my day! Thanks mom and dad...you guys are the BEST and I love you!

I just had to put this picture up...he's so cheesey! Carson asks for watermelon like every time we see it at the store...he really likes it (as you can tell from the picture)! So, today I bought a quarter of one and we all indulged in some. I have to say it was pretty yummy. It gets me excited for when the fruit really comes into season...I love fruit in the summer!

Happy Mother's Day to me!

This last weekend, Christian took me to pick out a patio set for Mother's Day, and I was so excited...I have been wanting one for quite a while! I had my eye on one set already, so we didn't have to do a lot of shopping around. The set had a large table with 4 chairs and then an end table with two other chairs. So, we spent Saturday putting it together since it was such a nice day...and I LOVE it. There is nothing better than sitting outside in the morning and listening to the birds in the trees. We have actually gotten to eat at a couple of meals because it's been so nice. Now Christian says we need to have a bbq and invite someone over so we can really use it!
I have been waiting and waiting for it to warm up and stay consistantly warm so that we can plant flowers. Well, yesturday, I finally just decided to do it. So Carson and I went and picked out flowers...he loves to look at flowers (I think he gets his love of plants from his dad)...and planted them in some planters that we have. I have to say they are quite happy!

HAPPY MAY DAY!

Well, being the first day of May, Carson and I put together some May Day baskets (they were actually bags) for a couple of his little friends. This is something I've enjoyed doing for the past 5 years for someone that I know....it's fun to brighten someone's day. We filled them with just a few little fun summer type things like a squirt gun, bubbles, poppers, and some candy. I think his little friends will enjoy them...he sure like the one I made for him. We are going to go and deliver them this afternoon after one of his friends gets home from school. Hope you all have a Happy May Day!
