Harvesting!

Our forecast for the week called for some freezing temperatures towards the end of the week. It was hard to believe that it was coming considering the fact that I got sunburned Tuesday sitting at the park with the kids. But, the weather man was right and yesterday, it was super cold and Christian even saw snow falling. Because there was supposed to be a frost, we went and helped Christian's mom pick the ripe veggies from the garden. We spent quite a while out in the garden and picked several coolers full of ripe tomates, a couple 5 gallon buckets of peppers, some melons, and the boys got to pick out their pumpkins to carve for Halloween. There are still TONS of tomatoes that weren't quite ripe and LOTS of green tomatoes still out there. We have lots of canning to do now...bring on the salsa and canned tomatoes!

Carson and Travis have had fun all summer using grandpa's hoes to chop up the yucky cucumbers and squash. Travis is hard at work chopping them up!

Happy Birthday!

Today, my baby turns 1! It's crazy to think that my bald headed baby is getting so big. Landon, you are so full of personality and you are adored by all of us! You haven't always been the easiest baby (early on...he's become a changed baby now that he is mobile), but we love you with all our heart. At one year old, you:

*have 9 teeth (six on top and three on bottom)

*still aren't walking. In fact, you think it's super funny when we hold on to your hands and try to get you to walk with us.

*Are still very bald, but have some very cute, dark hair in the back.

*have beautiful blue eyes with an almost brown ring in the middle!

*love to have drinks from grandma's pop 

*are still taking a morning and afternoon nap (in your swing) and are finally sleeping better now that you have your own room!!

*love, love, love to watch your brothers play and you think that you are just as big as them and try to get in on the action.

*can moo like a  cow and woof like a dog. You love to go with grandpa Asay to see the cows and get super excited when you hear them.

*try to say "what's that" when you hear noises

*you are great at planking and are going to have abs of steel!

*go up stairs fine, but you haven't mastered going down them

*your favorite blanket is a blue one with bright yellow sunshines. You will go to the dirty clothes and get it if it's time to wash it. You love to sleep with a blanket and know that when you have your blankie, it's time for bed.

*are a good eater and you love cheese and soggy cereal. You are also my messiest eater and cover a three foot radius on the floor around you with food while yo eat.

Weaning calves

Yesterday, we spent the day up in Dry Head weaning the calves and bringing them home to the Asay farm. This year's team consisted of Christian, Daniel, who drove trucks back and forth between the mountain and the farm, Jacob, Grandpa Asay (drove), a group of people with the Snells (who own the land that the Asay's run their cows on), Kasi and Britt, Grandma Asay and the boys and I. The guys made two trips out to gather cows, and we sat back while the kids played and cooked hamburgers for lunch. The boys, as usual, had a great time riding and playing with the other kids.I love going into Dry Head this time of year because the trees are starting to change and it is just beautiful!  The weather was just perfect with just a few drops of rain as we were packing things up. It won't be long, until they go back in and bring the rest of the cows home until next summer.

Christian took Travis and Carson out for a ride after they had gathered all the cows. They were so excited to be able to ride with their dad. They both LOVE riding horses.

The move!

We closed on our house September 4, but we didn't officially move in until September 13th. We spent the time between our closing and moving day packing, painting, canning and other various things. We were so glad to actually be in our new house when the time finally came.

Here are some before and after pictures of our painting. The couple that lived here before us had some pretty bold colors on the walls. Being the boring people we are, we painted over everything with a very neutral beige/tan color.

My mother in law came and taught/helped me can some peaches and pears one night after painting. We are excited to have them to eat this winter.

One of the highlights of the new house is the large jetted tub! The two older boys couldn't wait to take a bubble bath in it after we moved it!

Since we have moved in, Landon has really enjoyed the view from the patio! My dad put up a great barrier so he wouldn't fall down the stairs! He can still see the kids but isn't able to escape!

Another highlight of our new house for the boys has been all the kids to play with in the neighborhood. We have a great neighborhood with quite a few kids. The boys have had a blast riding their bikes up and down the street to visit their friend's houses and play. Here they are with a couple of boys from down the street under our deck building a little town in the dirt.
